Late December and into early January is when our sour cherries are ripe for picking.
Sour cherries are small in size and not to be confused with un-ripe sweet cherries! Sour (Morello variety) cherries have a tart/sour flavour. Most people prefer to use sour cherries for cooking; pastries, tarts, cherry pies, sauces, jams, preserves, rice dishes and even liqueurs!
Sour cherries are quite delicious to eat when they’re very ripe, almost black in colour and super juicy…. If you like sour flavours, you’ll love sour cherries!
